Africa’s Talking notifications are vital for real-time communication and keeping users informed efficiently. They provide instant updates on tasks, invoices, users, and more. How to use Africa’s Talking Add-On?

  • Once you purchase the Add-On, navigate to the settings page, click on system settings, and find Africa’s Talking.
  • On that page, you have to enter the Africa’s Talking Webhook URL, with the help of which you can send messages via Africa’s Talking.
  • To generate the API key, you can follow the steps given below.
  • After you do this, you get a chance to choose the notification settings. Here is how you can enable or disable the notifications for the various add-ons.
  • You can customize notification messages language-wise, for example, if you want to change the message for new user notifications, you can do it here.
  • For example, If you enable the create user setting from General, then the notification via Africa’s Talking will be sent to that particular user when the user is created.

  • Go to: https://account.africastalking.com/auth/login
  • Click “Register” to create a new account.
  • Fill in your email, name, and password and submit the form.
  • Verify your email to activate the account.
  • Log in to your account after verification.

Understanding the Dashboard

  • After logging in, you will see two sections: Sandbox and Teams.
  • Sandbox: For development and testing purposes. Comes with a test app and free credits.
  • Teams: For real/live production use, where you can manage real services and billing.

How to Use Sandbox

  • Sandbox allows you to test all services without using real money.
  • It includes a pre-configured test app with credentials.
  • You can test sending SMS, making API calls, etc., within the sandbox environment.

Create a Team (Production Environment)

  • From the main dashboard, go to the Teams section.
  • Click “Create Team”.
  • Enter your team name and other required details.
  • Once the team is created, you can create apps and manage members under this team.

Create Apps and Assign Members

  • Go to Teams, find Your Team, and click on Apps.
  • Click “Create App”.
  • Enter the app name and submit.
  • Your new app will appear in the app list on the dashboard.
  • To assign members to the team, go to Teams → Your Team → Members.
  • Click “Invite Member” and enter their email address.

Access Dashboard for an App

  • Go to Teams, select your team, and click on the app name.
  • You will be redirected to the Dashboard where you can manage SMS, USSD, Payments, Voice, etc.

Generate API Key

  • Click your profile icon and go to Settings.
  • Navigate to the “API Key” section.
  • Click “Generate New API Key”.
  • Enter your account password when prompted.
  • A confirmation email will be sent. Click the button in the email to generate your key.
  • Copy and save the API Key for future use.

Create / Request Short Codes

  • Go to Dashboard, click SMS, and click on Shortcodes.
  • If there are no shortcodes listed, click “Request Short Code”.
  • Fill in the online request form with business name, use case, and location details.
  • Submit the request for approval. Africa’s Talking team will respond after reviewing.

Create / Request Alphanumeric Sender ID

  • Go to Dashboard, find SMS, and click Alphanumerics.
  • Click “Request Alphanumeric Sender ID”.
  • Enter your preferred sender name (e.g., COMPANY NAME), use case, and other details.

Final Integration Steps

  • After generating the credentials, navigate to the platform, go to system settings, and paste the credentials in the Africa’s Talking section.
